Is airsoft legal in South Africa?

Airsoft is a modern shooting sport. Airsoft guns themselves are in fact legal in many parts of the world, they are legal to own in South Africa.
Airguns that exceed 5.6mm caliber & muzzle energy of 8 Joules/6 foot-pounds are classified as a firearm in South Africa. In terms of the Firearm Control Act, a firearms license is also require to own and operate such.
According to the Amendment of section 120 (10) of the Firearms control act,2000( ACT 60 of 2000)

“It is an offense to own any firearm, arraign, deactivated firearm, muzzle-loading firearm, or imitation firearm with intent to commit an offense or to use to resist arrest or prevent the arrest of another person.”
